What matters in Lisburn

  • Roofs and wiringA generous roof area makes 6–10 kWp systems common here. Anything above 3.68 kW per phase needs a G99 application to NIE Networks before connection, so we allow for the extra lead time when we set the programme.
  • Getting to youLisburn is reached from Larne by the A8, M2 and M1. We run surveys, installs and aftercare visits from our Larne base.

Planning and permissions

Lisburn city centre and Hillsborough village (BT26, in the same council area) are conservation areas, and the district has a good number of listed country houses. Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council handles applications. Ordinary suburban roofs outside those areas are usually permitted development.

Lisburn questions

Do I need G99 approval for a large Lisburn roof?

If you fit more than 3.68 kW per phase, yes. A 6 kWp array on a single-phase house is over that line, so it needs NIE Networks approval before we connect it, and approval can add weeks. We submit the application for you and give you a realistic switch-on date once the survey is done.

Should I cover the whole roof on a big detached house?

Not necessarily. Northern Ireland has no Smart Export Guarantee, and voluntary export tariffs are modest, so the value is in what you use yourself. We size the system to your consumption and any future heat pump or car, then tell you honestly if extra panels would barely pay back. The export guide has the tariff detail.

Does Hillsborough count as a conservation area for solar?

Hillsborough village centre does, and listed buildings there are covered too. That means planning permission rather than permitted development. Houses on the modern estates around the village are normally outside it, but check your address with Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.
