Charge the car on your own solar. A solar-aware chargepoint monitors your export and diverts surplus into the car. Instead of selling a unit for around 12p (Power NI, October 2026) you put it in the battery you drive around in, worth the full import rate of about 34p. On a bright day that is effectively free miles.

Fixed-price installation. We quote after surveying the cable run, any consumer unit work and the earthing arrangement, so the price you are given is the price you pay. Long runs from an outbuilding or a detached garage are quoted up front rather than discovered on the day.

Compliant earthing and load management. Outdoor chargepoints need specific protection against a lost PEN conductor. We fit units with integrated open-PEN detection or install an earth rod where required, and add load curtailment where your main fuse cannot take a full 32A on top of a shower and an immersion.

Smart charging as standard. Great Britain's Smart Charge Points Regulations do not apply in Northern Ireland, but the chargers we fit are the same smart models sold there, with scheduled charging, randomised delay and app control as standard. You can set the car to charge in the cheapest overnight window.

A 7.4 kW home EV charger in Northern Ireland typically costs £800–£1,200 installed, adds about 25–30 miles of range per hour of charging, usually takes half a day (3–4 hours) to fit, and can be linked to solar so the car charges on surplus generation instead of imported electricity.

Charging at home is the cheapest way to run an electric car, and it is cheaper still with solar. We fit chargers that can send surplus solar to the car instead of exporting it at around 12p, and that schedule charging around your night tariff.

Most home installations come in at £800–£1,200 fully fitted for a 7.4 kW smart chargepoint, including the dedicated circuit, protection and certification. Costs rise where the cable run exceeds about 10 metres, where a consumer unit upgrade is needed, or where an earth rod must be installed.

The general home chargepoint grant for owner-occupied houses has closed. The OZEV EV chargepoint grant of up to £500 is still available for people living in flats and for anyone in rented accommodation. Businesses can claim through the Workplace Charging Scheme, worth up to £500 per socket across up to 40 sockets. Both grants are claimed by an OZEV-authorised installer on your behalf, so if you are relying on one, check that before you order.

A 7.4 kW chargepoint adds roughly 25–30 miles of range per hour, so a typical 60 kWh car goes from 20% to 80% in about five hours. That comfortably covers an overnight charge on a cheap night rate. Three-phase 22 kW charging is only possible where you have a three-phase supply, which is rare in NI homes.

Yes. Solar-aware chargepoints read your export via a CT clamp and modulate the charge current to match surplus generation, so the car only draws what the panels are producing above household demand. Most units let you choose between solar-only, solar-plus-topup, and fast charge modes.

In most cases the installer notifies the chargepoint under the standard process and applies load management to keep demand within your existing supply capacity. Where you want multiple chargers, or a high-power unit on a constrained supply, a formal application for a capacity increase may be needed. We deal with that for you.

Yes. Both are routine. What matters is the cable route and the earthing arrangement. A long run to an outbuilding may need a larger cable or a submain, and a garage on a separate supply has its own protection requirements. Our survey establishes exactly what is needed so the price is fixed before we start.
