Solar panels, batteries and EV chargers in Belfast
Belfast is the city closest to our Larne base, and its roofs vary more than anywhere else we work: red-brick terraces in the east and west, 1930s semis in the south, new-build apartment blocks near the docks. A solar design here starts with the individual roof, not a standard package.

For homes in Belfast we typically fit the Sigenergy SigenStor battery, with the Anker SOLIX X1 as the alternative. See our typical prices.
What matters in Belfast
- Roofs and wiringSouth and east Belfast streets are often lined with mature trees, which we model panel by panel rather than writing the roof off. Older terraces frequently need rafter checks and a consumer unit upgrade before panels go on, and a small rear slope may only take a handful of panels.
- Getting to youBelfast is a short run down the A8 and M2 from Larne. We survey, install and attend aftercare visits from our Larne base. Journeys through the city can be slow at rush hour, so we will agree a visit time with you rather than quote a window.
Planning and permissions
Belfast has several conservation areas, including Malone, Stranmillis and the Cathedral Quarter, and many listed buildings. Both need planning permission for panels, so we design to the rear slope first where a street frontage is protected. Belfast City Council decides, and its planning pages are the place to confirm your property's status.
Belfast questions
Can I fit solar panels on a house in a Belfast conservation area?
You need planning permission in a conservation area or on a listed building, so ask Belfast City Council before you order. In practice the rear or side slope, out of view from the street, is the easiest case to argue. We tell you at survey stage whether the rear slope has enough space and sun to make an application worthwhile.
Is my Belfast terrace roof big enough for solar?
Often it fits fewer panels than a detached house, because the rear slope is short and a party wall or chimney breast takes space. We size the array to the space and to what you use in the daytime. A smaller system that you use most of can still be better value than a large one that mostly exports.
Can you fit an EV charger if I park on the street in Belfast?
No. A home chargepoint needs off-street parking within cable reach of your consumer unit, and we would not install a cable across a public pavement. Terraces without a driveway or yard are better served by public charging or a workplace charger.
